The Chicago Professional Programs in Computer Science provide a Master's level education in computer science with a strong emphasis in applied topics. The coursework covers topics in databases, networking, systems administration, large-scale information systems, computer architecture, operating systems, electronic commerce, ethics, public policy, object architectures, multimedia systems, Web-based services, e-commerce, network security, and cryptography, as well as other topics important to computer professionals and their potential employers.

Students enrolled in this program will be also trained in the fundamentals of computer science including programming languages, data structures, models of theoretical computation, and advanced algorithms. We also offer workshops on current computing issues and tools including Windows NT, Java programming, Web scripting, and similar topics throughout the year.

The Chicago Professional Programs in Computer Science expand their coverage as the needs of the computer industry change. As a result of current trends, we have included topical coverage of bio-informatics, information security, embedded computing systems, and computing for financial organizations. Our close ties with the University's Master's program in Financial Mathematics offer opportunities for students to take advanced courses in that field.

Members of our faculty teach in the Professional Programs, as well as recognized professionals who teach specific courses in their areas of expertise.

Graduates of our Professional Programs have a broad understanding of applied computer science, can easily adapt to demanding environments, and have been trained to lead initiatives, groups, and departments.

Our Professional Programs students come from the ranks of existing professionals in other disciplines who seek to advance their professional skills in computing and related fields. Recent college graduates who are interested in applied computer science training are encouraged to apply.

Full-time students complete the program in about a year.
